Cottage in the Wood

A lakeside cottage at the edge of a wood on a cold February day in the gardens of the National Trust property at Stourhead, Wiltshire in the UK.

This is cropped to remove an excessive amount of water in the foreground of the original. Note the sap already rising in the trees on the island.

I would love to visit a place like this! Looks so inviting!

chunter: Here in the UK, the National Trust preserves many houses, gardens and other areas of special interest or importance to the nation. Many, like this one, are very attractive in the right conditions or at the right time of year.

Thanks for your visit to my pages Helen, but why not visit our little island too, and see these places for yourself.

Another nice Stourhead picture. I must go there again soon it's a great place.

chunter: There are better times of year to go here, Bill, for the colour of the blooms and so on, but when the sun's out it's not bad at any time.

We thought the local pub has gone down hill a bit though, with a poor lunch menu and captive audience prices.

Somehow this is what I'd call a "quintessentially English" scene - little thatched(?) cottage, willow tree and a lovely lake.

chunter: Ah, I like "quintessentially English". I often try to capture that, although I must admit I didn't have that in mind when I took this shot.
